Wellness and Empowerment Programs

The Peer Leader Program is designed to empower former participants, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to become effective leaders within their communities. This initiative recognizes the potential of individuals who have previously engaged with the program and seeks to harness their experiences to promote community involvement. By providing tailored training, the program fosters a sense of responsibility and inspires participants to drive positive change.

Through our Peer Leader Training, individuals are trained not only in leadership skills but also in identifying local community needs. This comprehensive approach ensures that peer leaders are well-versed in the challenges their communities face, enabling them to craft actionable solutions. Participants learn to assess gaps in community resources and develop initiatives that address these shortcomings, thereby making a meaningful impact in areas that require attention and support.

In addition to personal growth, the Peer Leader Program emphasizes the importance of collaboration and teamwork. By working together, former participants can share insights and strategies that enhance their collective effectiveness as community leaders. This synergy not only amplifies their individual efforts but also promotes a unified approach to tackling complex issues within the local community. As a result, these empowered leaders are prepared to make a significant difference and foster lasting change, ultimately benefiting those around them.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a course that teaches people how to recognize and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse issues. The course also teaches how to provide initial support and connect people with professional help.

MHFA courses are offered by many organizations around the world, including non-profits. The program was developed in Australia in 2001 by Betty Kitchener and Anthony Jorm.

MHFA courses teach participants a five-step action plan, ALGEE, which includes: Assessing risk, Listening non-judgmentally, Reassuring and supporting the person, Encouraging the person to seek professional help, and Encouraging the person to seek self-help and other support strategies.

The goal of MHFA is to reduce the stigma around mental illness and make it more likely that people will seek help.
